Notes
Application Notes - Overvoltage Protection (OVP) An overvoltage protection circuit, commonly referred to as a crowbar, is used to prevent damage to voltage senstive loads such as TTL logic. The trip point of the OVP is usually set at 115% - 135% of the output voltage. The OVP will short the output terminals upon sensing a fault condition. The primary fuse of the supply will blow if the supply is not foldback current limted. Nuisance tripping of the OVP is a common problem. Noise from input line spikes or load noise can cause an OVP to fire. The IH series has OVP noise filtering to prevent nuisance tripping and reduced transformer interwinding capacitance to minimise input line susceptibility. The majority of 5 V outputs have OVP fitted as standard see tables. N.B not available with cover fitted.
AC Connection and fusing The five wire input provides four voltages range: 100/120/220/230-240* +10% -13%. See chassis AC connection table for the jumpering requirements. Extended low line tolerance provides additional drop out margin in areas where line voltages are marginal. Inputs must be fused, see markings on unit chassis for individual model fuse rating. Input terminal accept 0.110 x 0.032 " fast-on solder connection.
* Tolerance for 230 V AC operation is +15%, -10%. -5 Volt Sub- Regulator Module The IAR5-0.6/OVP can be used to provide a regulated -5 VDC 0.6 A outputs when connected to any filtered source between -7 and -30volts. It can be fitted to IH series units using the OVP mounting holes. (not available with cover fitted.) |
